Grogg & Wolter: An Unfinished Story

Grogg & Wolter formed as an acoustic duo in Bloomington, Illinois in the late 1980s. Kurt Wolter was the lead singer, Keith Grogg was lead guitarist, and together they played, sang and composed. Their stage debut came in July, 1988 and they continued to write and perform in small or private venues and special events throughout the next four years. Their worst gig ever was downstairs at the Lucca at the very end of the 1988 summer season.

Music brought Keith and Kurt together again when mutual friend John Jackson formed the Midnight Stations in 1991.

GW's finale was a triumphant reunion performance in May, 1994 at the Lucca in Bloomington, upstairs this time, accompanied by bassist Jim Stipe. Both Kurt and Keith regard this as by far the best concert they ever gave as a duo. They reunited in a studio workshop environment for two days in July, 2010 in Wilmington, North Carolina, to workshop some new material.

The surviving Grogg & Wolter recordings, none of which is professionally produced, are strictly underground material. They include:

At the Electric Coffee (Live in Bloomington, July 25, 1988)

The Jonah Booth (Rehearsals and Rough Drafts, 1990-91)

Live at the Washington (Evanston, Illinois, May 26, 1991)

Grogg & Wolter 1993 (Four new demos, January 1993)
