This is the desk drawer where stuff gets filed away—the attic, the dead letter office, the archives, the relics warehouse.

VIDEO: Jess Rigel installation service, Charge to the Congregation, Warren Wilson Presbyterian Church, September 23, 2026. (The AUDIO from a phone in the pulpit is more enjoyable for me in that the responses of a fun group of friends and colleagues are clearly audible throughout: Charge to the Congregation for Jess Rigel's installation [audio]).

CITATION: It wasn’t even much of a quote, certainly nothing I would ever hang my hat on (I can't remember it other than to know it’s not worth looking up), but I was surprised to find, when I did an online search of my name in the fall of 2021, that a line from my sermon on the first Sunday after 9/11 was included in a book published by Harvard University Press, When Sorrow Comes: The Power of Sermons from Pearl Harbor to Black Lives Matter by Melissa M. Matthes, published April 13, 2021.

CITATION: I was surprised to find that a sermon text which I had posted on the church website (now defunct - the website, that is, not the church) had been uploaded to a site called sermons.com; the sermon, not the greatest ever preached, was titled “A Ghost Does Not Have Flesh and Bones” (Luke 24:36-48) and was delivered April 30, 2006 at Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church.
